During the sea fishing trip to New ross we stopped in to oaklands on the way back, We were incredibly impressed by the facilities, layout and the stamp of carp at the venue.
Back in September Niall and I ventured down for the day,we had done quite a bit of research the week previous and were both hopeful that paste on the day would ensure a good catch.
We made an early start from Dublin and after 2 hours we were on site and ready to get set up, the weather had been a bit mixed the week previously, with Lot’s of rain falling causing fresh colder water to enter the system.
We set up our seat box’s and both chose to use the pole on the day , for me this was the first time i got to use my 16 meter pole properly, we both had rigs set up and with a little fine tuning we started out cupping in hemp.
Through out the day Niall kept the fish coming in, while I was showing my true amateur form landing only 5 or 6 untill the sunlight started to fade and the larger carp moved up to the surface to search for floating food.
I had a supply of dog biscuits with me and with the help of a pellet band secured my self 4 more carp off the surface, taken from within the margins, without a doubt it’s quite a rush, when you hear the slurps beside you and gently lower your bait and allow it to float down towards the fish, waiting in anticipation, strike to soon and the fish will eject the bait, strike to late and the fish will realise something isn’t right and turn in to the snags.
All in we had a great day with plenty of banter from the other anglers, and of course between our selves, I know for sure we’ll be back down to Oaklands in 2011.

That’s a fine common Niall is holding, nice fish, I bet that put a nice stretch in the elastic…lol
